Preparation for moving house
Before
you move Have a good clear out of the clutter and possessions
you no longer need, way before the actual time of the move. This will
mean there is far less for you to pack. Your mind will also be clearer
as you offload your redundant past before arriving at your new home.
Say goodbye to acquaintances and your local trades people.
Let them know how much you appreciated them and their services in the
past. Saying goodbye makes moving on much easier.
Organise a party for close friends in order to celebrate
your moving home. This gives an opportunity to reminisce over old times
and aids the transition process.
Set yourself a task list and work through it systematically
in plenty of time before your move. Inform gas, electric telephone and
other utility organisations of your moving date so that they can sort
out your final bill and forward it to your new address.
Make sure you have some early nights and good rest in
the run up to your moving date. Moving can be stressful so make sure you
are not exhausted which can make you even more tense, irritable or even
tearful.
On the day Be prepared and
have some healthy food and drink in the house. Eating properly on the
day will keep your mood calmer no matter what is happening around you.
Make sure the stereo is the last item to be moved. Having your
favourite music playing will keep you relaxed and in a positive
frame of mind.
There may be a lot of lifting and carrying to do on the day. See this
as an opportunity for keeping in shape and using up excess
calories without having to go to the gym.
Be prepared for some disappointment when you actually
move to your new home. The house that you fell in love with may look very
different without the previous owners possessions in situ.
Be patient. It takes time to put your own identity on
a home. Go with the flow and set yourself small goals toward creating
a home of your dreams.
