BEATING THE TIME THIEVES
- Plan ahead Make a schedule the night before of all the tasks you hope to achieve the following day. Arrange your list in order of importance and urgency.
- Delegate. Don't feel you have to be superman or superwoman – share your load with your partner and / or your children. Get children into the habit of taking responsibility according to their age group. e.g. setting the table, washing up, etc. Start this at an early stage. Negotiate regularly with your partner on who does what at home.
- Say No! Don't be at everyone's beck and call. Say No if its not convenient to you. If you allow yourself to be a doormat everyone will walk over you.
- Home delivery mail order You may enjoy shopping sometime but if you have a lot on, get certain items delivered by mail order.
- Avoid interruptions. If you are busy cooking the supper and do not want to be disturbed, put the phone on answer phone or screen your calls.
- Buy food, birthday cards and presents in bulk so you are always prepared.
- Prepare food in advance and put some in the freezer.
- Set up an efficient filing system so your paper work is kept tidy and you don't waste time looking for things. Instead you'll be able to find what you need quickly.
- Pay your bills by direct debit.
- Take time out to work out your own time thieves.
