Recognising Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Are you feeling tired all the time, drained, with little energy? Are you feeling detached from people and gaining little satisfaction from your work? Are you feeling stuck in a situation from which you can't find your way out or are you unable to meet constant demands and becoming increasingly overwhelmed and depleted?

These are all warning signs that you mind and body are relentlessly strained. And the result is burnout or chronic fatigue; a physical, mental and emotional response to constant high levels of stress.

Below is a list of stress symptoms that you may be experiencing, note whether each of the following is "mostly true" or "mostly false" for you.

  • I feel emotionally exhausted
  • I recently lost my sense of humour
  • I feel quite irritable
  • I don't like talking to people
  • I feel trapped
  • I have difficulty sleeping
  • I find it difficult to switch off and relax
  • I don't have any time for myself
  • I feel constantly tired and worn out
  • I am drinking more than usual
  • I feel constantly tired and worn out
  • I frequently have physical symptoms such as muscle tension and digestive problems

Count up the number of "mostly true" answers you gave. If your score is 10 or more, then you are showing signs of overload and need some help to prevent things getting worse.

Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Although studied since the 1930s, M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has only come into the spotlight in the past twenty years. Since it is not completely understood, there are many proposed treatments some of which involve drugs and others which investigate the causes of the disease by use of other therapies.

Alix Needham has found that the latter, drug-free approach can be extremely effective and offers you therapy to help you to re-programme your mind and adjust your lifestyle to get your life back on track. She will help you to identify the causes of stress and show you how to take care of your self emotionally and physically. She will help you to manage stress and eventually you will find that sleep and rest becomes re-invigorating and you will find greater enjoyment in your career and life in general.
